Are you familiar with any of the adult learner book series from Nox Press? The books are written specifically for an older audience with low literacy skills. Many people working with adult literacy learners claim that there just aren't many books out there that are interesting enough to maintain the interest of a lower level adult reader who isn't a fan of reading.
